Don’t Pay a Fortune for Restaurants in New York City

It was 2001 and I couldn’t remember the name of the place, “but its New York City”, I told myself.

How to find Restaurants in New York City without spending a fortune?

I was hired as a consultant in NYC a few years back (2001) for a major bank. Part of my assignment was to visit each user and help troubleshoot computer problems. I can’t remember this analyst’s name on the 15th floor of our building. He was eating a plate (obviously Latin food) with the following essentials: Rice, Beans, a few ripe plantains (platano maduro), and a side of Pulled Pork. He gave me the address of the place, not a place you would have found on a tour guide for Restaurants in New York City, but soon there I was.

I went to the restaurant and found the perfect match. An $8 lunch that can feed two people. Fast-forward 10 years later back to visit the city. There it was. The place I visited so long ago still in the same place.

Margon’s Cuban Latino

Margon’s is a small counter-service spot in Times Square serving Latin food, Cuban sandwiches, American breakfast, and salads. The staff is amazing, the food is delicious, and the price is affordable. An NYC triple crown.

Minar Indian Restaurant in New York City – They welcome you like family.

This place is interesting.  The restaurant actually sits right next door to my #1 choice Margon’s Cuban.  In addition to its cultural impact, this is by far one of the best Indian food places all around Midtown.  The service is excellent.  Also, the food is delicious and authentic.  Minar setup a courtesy water station we thought was a nice touch.  All for under $9 + the cost of Naan. Try the goat curry or the chicken Masala with basmati rice and the naan (comes out fresh out of the oven). Another triple crown.

Patzeria Perfect Pizza – Real New York Pizza.

You could eat this pizza every day.  And be able to afford it!

This is a quick-food location with excellent service.  I highly recommend the Calzones, the Italian Heros, and the thin-sliced pizzas. Although it might appear as another tourist-premium place, the prices are also unbelievable.

Patzeria Perfect Pizza is another triple crown.
